OKINII RAMENBA 2021
Our journey began with a simple idea: to serve delicious chicken ramen in our cozy restaurant, OKINII RAMENBA, located in PJ, Malaysia. We had big dreams and the passion to share our love for great food with the local community. One of the reasons we chose to focus on chicken ramen was simple: we wanted everyone to enjoy it, especially in Malaysia we have our regular Malay customers. In the ramen world, pork-based broths like tonkotsu are often the standard, and they’re delicious in their own right. But we wanted to create something different, something everyone could enjoy together. That’s why we built our brand around a rich, flavorful chicken broth, Tori Paitan so that everyone, regardless of background or dietary preference, could experience the warmth and depth of a truly good bowl of ramen.
This focus on chicken broth is at the heart of what we do, and we’re grateful to see it resonate with our customers. It’s more than just a recipe—it’s our way of making ramen a meal for everyone. But, as with many businesses, life had other plans for us.
When the pandemic hit, everything changed.

With lockdowns and restrictions in place, we couldn’t welcome customers into our restaurant anymore. Undeterred, we decided to take a different approach and try to bring our ramen to people’s homes by offering delivery services. We teamed up with Grab to deliver our ramen to various states in Malaysia, hoping to keep our customers satisfied and our business afloat. But despite our best efforts, the ramen didn’t quite make it in the way we had hoped—traveling long distances just wasn’t kind to our delicate noodles and toppings.
However, something unexpected happened during this time. While we couldn’t send ramen, we discovered that our broth—rich, flavorful, and made with care—was something our customers truly loved. It was the heart and soul of our ramen, and people began asking for it by itself. That’s when we realized that our focus should shift from ramen to something even more essential: good broth
From that moment, we started experimenting and refining our broth recipes, carefully selecting the best ingredients and perfecting our slow-cooking techniques. What began as a setback turned into a new direction for our business. We embraced the idea of offering high-quality broths that could be enjoyed in a variety of ways, from cooking to wellness. At Okinii, and now with WONDERSOUS, our goal has always been to bring people together over food that’s both delicious and inclusive.
Today, that same commitment to quality and inclusivity continues not only through WONDERSOUS but also through our sister company, Tallow & Broth Co., which specializes in pure, wholesome broths and premium tallow products.
